I read this and loved it

I have always had a haunting feeling that Jews, so often multilingual, had a home and a home language connected with the unknown  - to me, Jews are... des survivants de l'impossible, and have been for thousands of years

pour moi, quitte à être hérétique, il y a une correspondance avec l'extraordinaire, tendre, irrésistible liberté d'Isaac Bashevis Singer, (je ne sais plus dans quelle short story, un soir en Israël, il a dû se réfugier en caleçon sur une terrasse nocturne - le temps que sa maîtresse improvisée affronte un amant qui venait de faire irruption dans la situation - frissonnant et extrêmement perplexe, il s'est lancé dans une conversation passionnée avec l'Éternel et un cafard en ascension le long d'un mur - avec lequel il a été bouleversé de se découvrir un lien de parenté)

Obama has been lording it over all the nations of the world for 6 years now - bestowing his vocabulary and dazzling smiles upon the blessed of the Earth

only Israel has been permanently excluded from his clemency

and yet

in 2008 and 2012, on the eve of each Election Day, he has knelt at the feet of AIPAC, sobbing with love for Israel, a love instantly turned into polar frigidity about 2 minutes after his accession to to the throne

something like 48 hours of unchecked adoration and 76 months of ominous distaste 

it seems to me that the danger for Israel lies mostly in the hatred of a remarkably mediocre man - who nevertheless managed his way to his throne on top of the planet: great salesmanship

...in the consuming hate of such a man for the brilliant leader of a tiny country, rooted on the map against all odds 

for no matter what else he is, or may be, Netanyahu has a vision, guts and an indestructible international dimension 

how can the U.S. divorce Israel? for all Obama's fuming bans and manoeuvres, for all his gluttony for revenge - a dish now best savoured at the UN - it seems to me that there is a link between the U.S. and Israel which even Obama, enthroned as he is on half a continent, cannot sever

and - I don't know - it somehow looks as if Obama's giant ego is well on the way to going supernova
